Moods Of The Sea

Finished this pendant today - it features a gorgeously bright piece of gem grade Azurite (from www.designercabochons.co.uk) and an 'eye' of Fordite, aka Dagenham Agate (from www.heartofstonestudios.com).

I also used faux bone, merino wool (wet felted), sterling silver tube & wire, embroidery thread, tiny beads and crystals, sterling silver cutout disk stamped 'Moods Of The Sea', various screws and washers.

Its about 15cm (6 inches) long.

Its for the 'Melodious Art' Exhibition at Uxbridge, Howick's Creative Centre during August 2009. This piece was inspired by The Hebrides Overture - one of my favourites, which I used to play (clarinet) with the Berkshire Youth Chamber Orchestra when I was young, once upon a time in England.........

I LOVE your work. It is so intricate and perfectly executed. Did I say that already in some other post? Don't mind if I say it again. A clarinetist hey? We won't hold that against you. We ex viola players. Excellent news about the exhibition.

Thank you Loani & Tammy!

Loani - a Viola player hey? The (slightly) 'cooler' section of all the strings.....(!)
I have recently bought your (brilliant!!!!) Wild Tea Cosies book and am teaching myself to knit so I can make 'Sea Squirt' (and will also have to buy a teapot)!

This is beautiful My fingers are all thumbs and I can't make anything but my cousin does a lot of craft work and she was thrilled at some of the stuff she found just lying around in New Zealand. Since she got back to England she's been busily incorporating it in her jewellery and stitching.

I'm about the only member of my family who hasn't been to NZ. In theory I can get there easily and cheaply if I do a travel article about it but I hardly have time to wash my hair right now and even France seemed like a big hike last week.

Anyway I'll look forward to reading more of your blog.

Hey Vicky!
I jusy popped in to answer your question about stamping rings.
I always do all of the stamping before I form and solder the ring.
It's too hard to stamp a round surface!

Thanks Jenny! You must definately get out here to NZ - we won't mind if you don't wash your hair. Its cold here - you can just wear a hat!

Thanks for that Tammy - I just thanked you on your blog as well. I guess I will have to learn to solder soon.....
