My Spinning Wheel Has Arrived!
Yay! My spinning wheel has arrived (a Majacraft Pioneer) - and after a couple of hours trying to assemble it (bearing in mind I have an Engineering degree....) it is working, I think.
I had my first spinning lesson a couple of weeks ago and so was raring to go!
This is my first yarn. Rainbow wool roving spun thick & thin (i.e. I couldn't get the tension/drafting consistent!) and then coiled/plyed around a pink laceweight yarn. Not sure I'm using the correct terms, but never mind I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!
Maybe I will knit this into a nice woolly hat ready for the NZ summer?

YUUUUMMMM!
How delightful!
I hope you can bear to part with some..
How gorgeous! (I'm trying to save up enough to get a new spinning wheel too.) I love what you've made.
Wonderful potential in these brilliant colors.
Thank you!
@ grrl+dog - I like your new photo. I think I need to test out how well my yarn stands up to knitting before parting with any. Might just fall apart....
Spinning wheel? As in...maing your own yarn/thread? Sorry...I am clueless about this...
Yes Swati! I got into knitting & crochet recently but the big funky art yarns are so expensive that I thought I would learn to spin my own instead. After all, I'm living in NZ where there are silly amounts of sheep.
Apparently spinning will also be quite relaxing - once I've got the hang of it...
I have just started to spin too. I've been doing a bit on a drop spindle and the I borrowed a fiend's wheel for a bit. Wooldancer is hosting a 3day art yarn workshop here in the mountains in March. Should be great. Yours looks great!
Thanks Pam - I'm finding it a good way of using up some of my fiber stash. But its not a 'relaxing' pastime yet - I'm overspinning everything!
I saw Wooldancer was having a retreat - and would so like to go so am very jealous, her website/shop is amazing. I bought some of her handyed roving & batts - gorgeous.
The yarns you made are just delicious! What a fabulous treat and something I've always wanted to learn - enjoy!
