I finally got around to finishing this piece which incorporates optic fibers with a pink LED. The LED is hidden inside the felt on the back and is powered by a small, flat 3V coin battery.
The beautiful, multicolored piece of turquoise (purchased from Heart Of Stone Studios) (size 42.5mm x 33.5mm) comes from right over the Tibetan border in China. It is the same source of turquoise that the Tibetans have used and worn for centuries.
I have also used oxidised copper, UV resin, vintage shards of pink glass, brass eyelets, merino wool (needle felted), beads, crochet thread, conductive thread, bamboo, bone & craft wire.

This opens my eyes---I have only thought of turquoise as from the Americas (especially the Native American southwest and Mexico).
Btw, re your wall squid (previous post), I display my (your) triffid on an egg cup--the ring base sits in the cup part--so I can enjoy it all the time.
So detailed and rich in techniques and so ORIGINAL!

Fresca - Heart Of Stone Studios (link in my blog somewhere) has a great summary about turquoise. In fact alot of 'turquoise' used in jewellery is actually plastic, or reconstituted. H Of S has turquoise from various mines in US (Arizona & Nevada) as well as China & Tibet.
LOL - I have most of my rings stored in egg cups too (or empty Guerlian chocolate boxes - yum!).

It is indeed Grrl! It has fiber optics which are (on the back & inside the felt) hot glued onto a pink LED and the connectors sewn using conductive thread to a small flat coin-style battery.
